TIM'S PROFILE

Tim Kroeze is the name of our co-designer. For privacy reasons, this name is used as an alternative for his real name. Based on the co-design sessions and chats with his mother and trainer, we made an overview of Tim's characteristics.

General

Tim is a 9-year-old energetic boy with the disease ADHD, Autism, and dyslexia. He likes to play computer games, watch television, and play with Pokémon cards. Besides that, he also likes to irritate his parents. He sports in Hengelo, where he learnt athletics. The disciplines of jumping and throwing weights are his favourites. Besides, he is very competitive, but he doesn’t like to lose. Also, it’s very hard to concentrate on the explanation of the exercises for him.

Impairments

Tim has multiple diagnosed impairments:

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Social-emotional development delay

  • Dyslexia

Below, the main characteristics of each of the impairments are listed that are possibly problematic. Some of the characteristics show overlap and may amplify one another. â€‹

Characteristics of Autism

  • Social competence flexibility, and communication problems

  • Lack of social interest

  • Short concentration span

  • Easily distracted

  • Repetitive behaviour and speaking

Characteristics of Social-emotional development delay

  • Inability to form attachment relationships with caregivers 

  • Failure to develop joint-attention skills 

  • Perseverative behaviours

Characteristics of Dyslexia

  • Problems with reading

  • Problems with writing

  • Difficulties with carrying out directions

  • Difficulties regarding planning
